But where on earth do you start?
There are tons and tons and tons of companies out there who can help with logo design for a varying range of costs and with a wide range of results. You could even have a go at designing it yourself if you are feeling creative!
So what are the key things to think about when getting a logo designed?
Fonts
Typography options are always the first place to start when thinking about logo design. You want a typeface which really represents your brand, your brand values and is in keeping with the services or products you offer.
It is important that the font is legible in the logo - you don't want people to struggle to read it. Script or handwritten fonts can work well in logos as long as they are clear. You might find that some cursive or lightweight font types look great on your screen but when you view them on mobile they suddenly become illegible. It's always a good idea to test your logo out on a mobile screen, just to be safe.
Colours
It's always a good idea to think about your brand, what you stand for, what your brand ideals are and focus on the services or products you offer when you are thinking about colour palettes for your business logo. Use colours which compliment each other and give your customer an instant impression about what your company does. Most logos will probably be used on a website at some point, so it's a good idea to focus on website friendly colours.

Icons & Illustrations
Some logos look great using just clever typography and striking colour palettes, but sometimes it's good to add a little something extra to your logo, such as an icon or illustration to show what your company does. It can be helpful to your customers to have an instant idea what service or product you are providing. It also really helps with brand recognition.
Scaleability
Your company logo design should be easily scaled across different media platforms. It needs to look great across desktop, tablet, mobile, business cards, flyers and social platforms. Your logo will appear in a number of different places as your business grows, so making sure it it scaleable from the start means your business will be flexible further down the line.
File Types
The best file types for your logo are vector files. A vector file is an editable, scaleable file. Which means your designer can use it at any size, from a mobile facebook post all the way up to a billboard. It means you have the flexibility to do whatever you want with your logo as your business grows. It also means you have the ability to change or adapt your logo if your business requires it, for example, you could add a strap-line to it, or amend the icon slightly if you product offering changes.
Your Brand
Probably most importantly, it is essential that you are happy with your logo. After all, it is your business, so you have to love the way that it looks. Stay true to your business and your brand values.
